Job Description
Job Title: Building Maintenance Technician
Location: Columbus, OH
Pay Rate: $18.00 – $20.00/hour (based on experience; higher rate may be considered for highly qualified candidates)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Position Type: Temporary with potential for permanent hire
Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and hands-on Building Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep and functionality of company facilities, equipment, and structures. This role is responsible for performing installations, repairs, and routine maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude and takes pride in maintaining high standards of facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general building maintenance, including installations and repairs
- Inspect buildings, structures, and equipment to ensure safe and proper working conditions
- Assist with the maintenance of plumbing and basic electrical systems as needed
- Prepare surfaces and complete drywall repair and painting projects
- Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, bulbs, switches, and light fixtures
- Repair and maintain doors, windows, and exterior building components
- Fabricate and repair counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and supplies
- Assist Maintenance Technicians with machinery repairs and upkeep
- Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts (maintain certification)
- Track and maintain preventative maintenance schedules and records
- Communicate daily with supervisors regarding maintenance status and priorities
- Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols
Requirements
- Previous building or facilities maintenance experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
- Forklift experience or willingness to obtain certification
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs multiple times per shift
- Prolonged standing and walking throughout the workday
- Frequent bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching overhead
- Ability to work in tight or confined spaces and dusty environments
- Sufficient hearing to recognize equipment sounds such as horns and backup alarms
- Manual dexterity to safely operate tools and equipment
